Samsung will reduce Galaxy Note 7’s battery capacity via automatic update to to reduce battery risk
Among the many decisions to speed up the Galaxy Note 7 recall process, Samsung announced that it will roll out a software update for the potential faulty devices, which will limit the battery’s maximum charge.
Samsung Electronics said the company will promote a software update that limits the user’s charge on the Galaxy Note7 smartphone. The electronics giant is trying to recall more than 2 million Galaxy Note7 smartphones worldwide.
The company said the software will be launched on September 20 in Korea. However, informed sources, the recent Samsung is unlikely to launch the software patch in the United States.
According to Samsung Australia, the software update will do download and install automatically to all original Galaxy Note 7 smartphones that were purchased in this country. The update is meant to limit the smartphone battery to a maximum charge of 60%.
Aside from this update of the original Galaxy Note 7 devices, Samsung Australia announced that another software update will be pushed to replacement units. The update will introduce a green battery icon, which will allow users to easily identify the fact that the new phones do no have the reported battery issue and are safe to use.
Samsung said it was considering all possible measures to protect the safety of consumers, this software update is to urge consumers to reduce the amount of equipment and added to the replacement program as part of ongoing efforts.
